Safety notice — read this first

WXMarine is a passage-planning and screening aid. It is not a certified navigation system, not an ECDIS, and not a substitute for official nautical charts, Notices to Mariners, official forecasts and warnings, or the judgment of a qualified mariner. Forecasts are model output and are frequently wrong; charted depths, marks, and chart-derived advisories here are simplified, may be incomplete or out of date, and are explicitly not for navigation. The underway display uses your device's GPS and a web browser — it can lose its fix, lag, or stop without warning. You remain solely responsible for the safety of your vessel and crew.

Terms of use

WXMarine is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, WXMarine and its operators are not liable for any damages arising from use of the service, including damage to vessels, property, or persons, grounding, weather encounters, or missed passages. Do not use the service where these limits are unenforceable for safety-of-life decisions. Automated scraping and abusive request volumes are prohibited; rate limits are enforced.

Privacy summary

An account is optional. If you create one we store your email address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), your saved routes, vessel profile, and display preferences.
Your device's location is used on your device to center the chart, bias search, and drive the underway display. Continuous GPS tracks are not uploaded; route stops you place are part of routes you choose to compute or save.
Display settings live in your browser's local storage. The offline passage pack is a cache in your own browser.
If you explicitly import vessel-performance observations, we store the timestamped speed-through-water and accompanying weather fields in your account to calibrate that vessel's routing performance. Optional position, speed-over-ground, engine, and fuel fields are stored only when present in your import. You can deactivate the learned correction from the vessel-performance controls or delete the account data through the contact channel below.
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages and passages people actually use. It sets cookies and reports page views, approximate location, device type, and coarse product events such as completing a calculation or viewing a forecast layer. Event data uses distance/time buckets and does not include your raw searches, account details, saved route names, error text, email address, or GPS position. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or any tracker-blocking extension.
We do not sell personal data and do not run third-party advertising. Server logs (IP address, request path) are kept for operations and abuse prevention.
To delete your account and its data, use the contact channel below and we will remove it.

A monitored contact address is not configured for this deployment yet. If you need your account or its data removed in the meantime, reply to any email WXMarine has sent you, and the operator will action it.

Data sources & attribution

NOAA / NWS / NCEP — GFS, GEFS, HRRR forecasts, human-edited NDFD marine guidance, NDBC buoy observations, ENC Direct chart features, CO-OPS tide predictions, and marine warnings. US Government open data; NOAA ENC services are "not intended for navigation".
GEBCO bathymetry — GEBCO Compilation Group.
NASA EOSDIS GIBS — VIIRS NOAA-20 satellite imagery with an optional 30 m Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 land enhancement at close zoom, shown for situational context and not for navigation.
